Violet
You’ll love the Violet. Soft in royal colors and a joy to capture.
Let’s think of spring and Violets … Napoleon did because they reminded him of the Corsican woods of his childhood. Josephine wore Violets for her wedding and Napoleon gave her a lovely bunch of the flowers on each anniversary. When Napoleon was exiled, his followers were told that he would return with the Violets in spring. When he escaped, his loyal followers wore violet colored clothing, After his defeat at Waterloo, before St. Helena, Napoleon asked to be able to visit Josephine’s grave where he picked violets that he carried in a locket around his neck.
African Violets are the variety we see most. The flowers may be deep violet, pink, white, red, mauve or purple.
